magic?

No, Bean has not taken up the quest of becoming a magician...he has just decided to bring a washcloth with him in the car to absorb his back sweat. The AC in the car is not quite cutting it considering that it has to fight against the hot air coming in from one of the back seat windows that keeps magically sliding down on it's own.

Bean, just wait till it gets really hot! We'll have to sit on beach towels and we might as well wear our bathing suits, too!

*this is all true but before I really worked myself up thinking about how I'd like to be back in NYC I realized that New Yorkers aren't exempt from this kind of anguish either. I remember waiting on subway platforms trying to make the most of the wind from the passing trains. and those empty cars that pull up and make you think it's your lucky day because you get a seat? those cars are empty because the AC is broken! so before I get too upset at my predicament, I remind myself that at least I can control the speed at which I am traveling.

old habits die hard

Every now and then, Bean will get the urge to pay me after we have driven somewhere. Of course, this is money he has removed from my wallet so I smile and take it, hand him a tiny piece of paper I call his "receipt" and put the money back in my wallet.
I think I'll let this go on for a while.

Many people have asked me how I come up with my ideas for Bean. In general, I take circumstances from my own life and then add Bean into them. And even though I may come up with ideas ahead of time, I always draw him in the morning right before I post him. From now on, I will try to add the story behind every Bean at the bottom of the post for your added enjoyment!...

*One of my friends from NYC called me this morning on her way to work. I thought she was walking to work but after overhearing her conversation with her cab driver about the credit card machine not working, I realized she was in a cab. And then I fondly looked back on the time I paid people in yellow cars to drive me places while I occasionally endured awkward conversations and bluetooth phone calls in other languages.

in the hot seat

Bean loves the sound and feel of peeling his legs off the hot leather seat.
And he's learned that if he does it too many times, I will roll up the windows and start to crank the AC.

car toys

Bean, don't use all my nice Bath & Body Works hand sanitizer. You know we need that for our bi-weekly trips to thrift stores.

the dangers of seat belts

Bean likes to do a lot of things in the car...
Like pretend the seat belt is strangling him. He can do that all he wants, I'm still making him wear it.

sing it out loud!

Bean loves that he can sing as loud as he wants in the car when his favorite songs come on; because you can't do that on the subway unless you want everyone to laugh at you or hate you.
Now if I could only convince him that he doesn't need to use his earbuds anymore when we play his ipod through the radio.

strange things

Bean, that's a car charger. You plug it into the lighter socket in your car and you can charge electronics! We're going to be using those now that we are in Texas and driving instead of using public transportation.
That one is for my cell phone and we can get one for our ipods, too!

going underground

Poor Bean. He's got a whole list of things to do today but it's too cold to go outside. If only there was an underground tunnel system that could take you places with minimal outside air contact. Oh wait! There is!

hitchin' a sleigh ride

Bean wants to know if you want to go on a sleigh ride with him.
He's got an electric blanket, which he promises will keep you toasty even though there is no place to plug it in.

favorite things

Bean would like to show you his two favorite things about Texas:
1) Driving- of course he doesn't drive but he likes riding in cars that aren't mustard yellow and don't have drivers that won't turn on the AC.
2) Kolaches- and the fact that there is cheese IN the sausage.

Roma

Bean is headed to Rome for a Roman holiday!
Take a picture with a gladiator for me!
