a plethora of pools

The facts show that the number of pools per square foot in Houston is sufficiently higher than the number of pools per square foot in NYC. Therefore, given the increased chances of being in the vicinity of one and dressed in the appropriate garments, Bean and I must prepare accordingly.
Bean, if you ain't sweatin', you ain't workin'! Lift that leg higher!

the ultimate

Bean and I threw some frisbees around over the weekend. Well, actually, I threw the frisbee around while Bean sat in one. He said the grass was too spikey.
Sitting there, Bean realized that the frisbee was the perfect sized saucer sled for him and then he told me that he couldn't wait to see what Houston snow is like. "It's like nothing... you've ever seen," was all I had the heart to tell him.
*I played ultimate frisbee with some new friends this weekend. One of them, the athletically talented Mr. Ripple, asked if he would be seeing Bean playing frisbee anytime soon. I told him that Bean, being in a frisbee situation, would not actually play frisbee but sit and soak up all the enjoyable things attached to a game of ultimate- like the outdoors, friends, and fun- and thus he is illustrated so.

send it soaring

Bean wants me to take him to buy a kite. I think I'll get one, too. I saw a Buzz Lightyear one at Wal-Mart for $1. It's just too bad we can't buy one from Dick Van Dyke.

cool dip

Bean and I agree that best way to enjoy the Houston heat is to get out of it and jump in a pool! We enjoyed some cool water this weekend and Bean discovered the artistic possibilities of sunscreen.
*I went swimming yesterday and realized how much I missed it living in NYC. The last time I went swimming was with friends along the Jersey Shore. That was pretty great, except for the millions of jellyfish in the bay. But we rode jet skis so that helped to strike a balance between the good and bad.

don't wade in the water

Don't you even think about taking those galoshes off, Bean. When the streets flood, sewer water mixes in with rain water, so you keep those boots on your feet.
*The flood waters are pretty much gone but it just kills me to see news footage of parents letting their kids play around in the water on the street. Don't they know that is sewer water with tons of bacteria!

until we meet again...UES
goodbye impressionists at the met, beautiful seasons reflected in central park foliage, tim keller's sermons and the redeemer family,
bible study girls (kelly, hannah, and lindsey and all the other tuesday night ladies), pumpkin scones from alice's tea cup,
annual birds of prey/falcon fest in central park, and just lounging around and playing instruments in sheep's meadow until the sun sets.
Bean, I think you should try the ukulele; Pet would probably prefer the tambourine.

until we meet again...midtown
goodbye rockefeller center with a giant tree, hilton hotel where we stayed when we first visited the city, shopping on 5th ave and christmas windows at bergdorf's,
bryant park during fashion week, bryant park free ice skating pond in the winter,
and bryant park movies in the summer,
always romantic grand central station, always sketchy port authority, the old film office way over on 10th ave, broadway shows,
part of the street that acted as a walkway for real new yorkers because the tourists take up the whole sidewalk, and the giddiness that always came from times square's madness reminding me that this is new york city and this is where i live.
hand sanitizer, anyone? or maybe some of you softies need a tissue?

until we meet again...tribeca
goodbye sophomore year dorm, goodbye tribeca film festival street parties with hula hoops,

goodbye crazy and crowded canal street, goodbye delicious Bubby's brunches,

goodbye least crowded and most spacious whole foods in manhattan, goodbye freaky pearl paint elevator,
and goodbye iconic ghostbusters firehouse.
Bean, when you are done being slimer, don't forget to give Christine her scarf back. You know how good she looks in it.
